Introduction

Welcome to the online lesson plan index for helicopters. This site was designed to aid instructors and students during the preparation and planning for the private and commercial manuevers during rotary wing training.

We have utliized the standard format for lesson planning, with the addition of the following items:

  • 1. Hazards (with solutions) to prepare the students for the issues which may present during a manuever
  • 2. In flight footage of the student perspective for each lesson.

While studying the following lesson plans, you will notice these links:

  • View this movie with technique
  • View this movie without technique

These links indicate that there is actual cockpit footage of the manuever for which you are studying. We have provided two separate sequences for your convenience - one with illustrated techniques, and one as the actual in-flight performance of the manuever.

Each manuever has been performed by two helicopter instructors, in the ACTUAL training model you will be flying.

This training supplement will allow you to become familiar with every step of the manuever, as well as alert you to the hazards of each manuever, before you step foot inside the training aircraft. The footage will also allow you to constantly review every manuever, long after you have mastered your lesson.

Each lesson plan is broken out in the following sections:

  • Objective: what this lesson will accomplish
  • Technique: how to sucessfully accomplish this lesson
  • Hazards: what to avoid when performing this manuever
  • Errors (solutions): what most students do incorrectly (and how to avoid it)

With that, welcome to the school, and feel free to start the lessons.
