Objective: Simulate Succesful circling approach with engine failure.

Controls: Cyclic - Speed/Attitude/Ground Track, Collective - RPM/Glide Path, Pedals - Trim, Throttle - RPM

Technique:

  1. Choose safe area
  2. Landing checks
  3. Entry checks (airspeed/altitude/RPM)
  4. Judge entry point using canopy and wind conditions (high on canopy or low)
  5. Countdown 3,2,1
  6. Lower Collective
  7. Roll off throttle
  8. Right pedal for trim
  9. Apply aft cyclic to 60kts attitude
  10. Begin cyclic turn
  11. Correct with collective to control RPM in turn
  12. While turning, stop turn if necessary
  13. 4 fingers attitude
  14. Turns with cyclic
  15. RPM control with collective for turns/pitch changes
  16. 200' crack throttle 1500-2000 for correlator
  17. < 100' trim for heading
  18. 50 ft AGL, start cyclic flare, check RPM with collective
  19. Increase flare as necessary (more with no wind), check RPM
  20. 10 AGL, raise collective, join needles
  21. Left pedal for trim

Hazards (solutions):

  1. Collision/tail strike
  2. Missing approach point
  3. Overspeed/Underspeed

Errors (solutions):

  1. Failure to meet entry requirements
  2. Failure to trim on power reduction
  3. Failure to use aft cyclic on power reduction
  4. Failure to maintain constant airspeed in glide
  5. Failure to maintain RPM
  6. Failure to properly flare
  7. Failure to judge landing point
