Objective: Safe touchdown from engine failure at altitude.

Controls: Cyclic - Speed, Attitude, Ground Track, Collective - RPM, Pedals - Heading,Trim Throttle - N/A

Technique:

  1. Safe altitude
  2. Speed greater than 60kts
  3. RPM Top of green
  4. Lower collective, THEN roll of throttle
  5. Right pedal for trim
  6. Aft cyclic if needed for 60kts
  7. Control RPM with collective
  8. 200' AGL throttle to 2000 RPM
  9. 50' AGL start flare
  10. Aft cyclic flare to stop forward movement
  11. Skids level
  12. Raise collective, throttle as necessary to join needles
  13. RECOVER at 200' AGL if any one of the following: 1. Low RPM 2. Low airspeed 3. Extreme Descent Rate 4. Missed point

Hazards (solutions):

  1. Collision with ground
  2. Overshoot/undershoot
  3. Overspeed - rotor/engine
  4. LOW RPM

Errors (solutions):

  1. Improper pedal on power reduction and revocery
  2. Failure to control RPM
  3. Improper collective control to maintain RPM
  4. Improper cyclic control
