Helicopter Lesson Plan for: Running Departure

Objective: Used in minimized power situations to use ETL for assistance

 

Controls: Cyclic - Speed/Attitude/Ground Track, Collective - Climb Rate, Pedals - Trim, Throttle - RPM

 

Technique:

  1. Position into wind
  2. Takeoff checks
  3. Cyclic slightly forward
  4. Collective to start forward movement
  5. Pedals for yaw control
  6. ETL -> Slight aft cyclic into ground effect
  7. Climb out 41kts

Hazards (solutions):

  1. Rollover (proper cyclic)

Errors (solutions):

  1. Failure to maintain efficient max RPM
  2. Failure to maintain heading
  3. Abrupt control movements
  4. Aft cyclic delays liftoff
