View this movie with technique -or- View this movie without technique

Objective: Safe touchdown and takeoff from sloped surface.

Controls: Cyclic - Ground position,attitude, Collective - Climb/Descent, Pedals - Heading,Trim, Throttle - RPM

Technique:

  1. Position into wind if possible
  2. Across slope
  3. Approach at a 45 degree angle laterally
  4. Maintain 3-5' hover approaching slope
  5. Stablilize hover
  6. Slope not more than 5 degrees
  7. Touchdown upslope skid first
  8. Tip path plane level with horizon
  9. Pedals for trim, slight pedal into hill if necessary
  10. Ease collective down, cyclic into hill
  11. Full down collective center cyclic
  12. Reverse setdown for takeoff
  13. Depart at a 45 lateral
  14. DO NOT TURN TAIL INTO SLOPE

Hazards (solutions):

  1. Dynamic Rollover
  2. Ground Resonance

Errors (solutions):

  1. Failure to approach slope correctly
  2. Failure to maintain height
  3. Failure to properly touch upslope skid first
  4. Improper cyclic
