Helicopter Lesson Plan for: Straight and Level Flight

View this movie with technique -or- View this movie without technique

 

Objective: Maintain constant attitude.

 

Controls: Cyclic - speed, heading Collective - climb/descent, Pedals - trim, Throttle - RPM

 

Technique:

  • 1. Maintain altitude with collective
  • 2. Maintain heading with cyclis
  • 3. Uninterrupted setdown until light on skids (2 phase technique)

Hazards (solutions):

  • 1. Rollover (proper use of cyclic and collective, improper setdown, clear area)
  • 2. Striking Object (clear area - left,right,tail)
  • 3. Observe manifold pressure changes on airspeed
  • 4. Hover power should read 70kts.

Errors (solutions):

  • 1. Failure to maintain heading
  • 2. Failure to maintain altitude
  • 3. Failure to maintain trim
Student must focus outside, not at instruments.
