At Blue Hill Helicopters, we train in modern, instrument equiped Schweizer 300C and CBI Helicopters. There is no other flight school in the area which operates such a modern, well equipped helicopter fleet. The low operating costs of the Schweizer make it possible for BHH to provide training in a vastly superior aircraft at rates which are competitive with other schools using older or less suitable helicopters. BHH has adopted a policy, which is being followed by many area flight schools of conducting all Private Pilot training in the 300CBi, as well as Mountain, Commercial add-on and CFI training.

About the Schweizer 300C

The Schweizer 300C is the most powerful two-seat, piston-powered helicopter in production and was designed as a multi-purpose aircraft, with pilot training specifically in mind. Certified by the FAA in August 1995, the Schweizer 300 is the first new helicopter in over twenty years to be designed specifically for training. It is a derivative of the Schweizer/Hughes 269 series helicopters which were originally certified over 40 years ago, and have dominated the world of military flight training for many years. The new model combines the outstanding flying qualities of its predecessors with the latest technological improvements, including full instrument training capability.

The Schweizer 300C is powered by an injected Lycoming 190HP engine which eliminates the concerns of carburetor icing. The 300C is also equipped with a start-up overspeed limiter, automatic rotor engagement, and low rotor RPM warning system.

Why Train in a Schweizer ?

By training in the Schweizer you will reduce your training costs. The inherent stability of the Schweizer aircraft makes it possible to solo students earlier and enables the student to reach the required standards with less flight time. BHH is a strong advocate of student training in the 300 series for the following reasons:

  1. The 300 comfortably fits larger students where space would be a limiting factor
  2. The 300 does not have the power limitations to increase it’s component life.
  3. Low minimum hours required before a student can solo
  4. Inherent stability making the initial hovering easier to learn, as well as more advanced maneuvers like touchdown autorotations
  5. Conventional controls, equal to those used in most helicopters on the commercial market
  6. A safety record that cannot be matched.
  7. Good factory support, which translates to less downtime for our students.
